Tim Paine Quits Captaincy | Who Will be the New Australian Test Captain ?

Tim Paine has announced his resignation as Test captain, throwing Australia’s Ashes defence into disarray with weeks before the series begins.

Following news of a ‘sexting‘ incident involving a former Cricket Tasmania staffer in 2017, Paine announced his resignation from the captaincy during a press conference in Hobart on Friday afternoon.

Unless the Australian cricket administration has a sudden change of heart, vice-captain Pat Cummins is destined to become Australia’s new Test skipper.

Paine said that he is looking forward to the upcoming Ashes which means that he will continue as a player. Paine took the decision himself, he wasn’t forced by the board. It was nearly 4 years ago when Paine was involved in ‘sexting’ with a former Tasmania Cricket colleague. Cricket Australia integrity unit also investigated that incident and they found out that Paine has not breached any code of conduct of Cricket Australia. However Paine still took the decision of resigning after this incident became public. Paine apologized once again to his family, his wife and the sporting community if his actions had done any damage to that. He also thanked his family who supported him and forgave him in this time.
