According to SLC, Perera decided to retire to devote more time to his family and make room for younger players to join the team.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera has announced his retirement from international cricket after nearly 12 years in the game, according to the country’s cricket board (SLC).

In one-day internationals, Perera, 32, scored 2,338 runs and took 175 wickets. He was also a member of the Sri Lanka team that won the 2014 Twenty20 World Cup.

“I am proud to have represented Sri Lanka in seven cricket World Cups and to have been a contributing member of the 2014 T20 World Cup win against India in Bangladesh,” Perera said in a statement. “Without a doubt, the highlight of my life.”

According to SLC, Perera decided to retire to devote more time to his family and make room for younger players to join the team.

“Thisara was a brilliant all-rounder who has contributed enormously as a player to Sri Lanka Cricket and played a part in some of the country’s glorious cricketing moments,” SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said.
