Reason Behind Dahani and Rauf’s Exclusion from Pakistan Test Squad

Reason Behind Dahani and Rauf’s Exclusion from Pakistan Test Squad:

The Pakistan Cricket Team will play a 2 Match Test Series against Bangladesh right after the 3 match T20I series. The T20I squad is already in Bangladesh while the Test Squad was announced yesterday. The squad announcement was done by Muhammad Wasim, the Chief Selector of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team. Wasim excluded Shahnawaz Dahani and Haris Rauf from the squad. Rauf and Dahani were with the squad since a very long time but they never made their test debut. Without playing, they were axed from the squad and an explanation was needed for that.

Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim made these decisions due to the conditions of Bangladesh. Wasim stated that they don’t need these many pace bowlers and hence he decided to axe the names of Dahani and Rauf. Pakistan Team already has Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali as their Pacers. They also have all rounder Faheem Ashraf so in spin friendly conditions of Bangladesh, carrying more pace options would’ve been a blunder. The Chief Selector also stated that Rauf and Dahani should go and play Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches to get ready for the Tests against Australia. After these exclusions, Pakistan added off spinner Bilal Asif, and one of the best performers in domestic cricket since last 2 years, Kamran Ghulam.

The squad announcement also saw the exclusion of Imran Butt. Imran Butt made a lot of name for himself with his extra ordinary slip fielding ability but he couldn’t contribute much with the bat. With an average of 17 in 10 games as opener, it seemed fair to drop Imran Butt and Imam-ul-Haq was called in as his cover. Imam had a good run in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021 so far. Leg spinner Yasir Shah was also axed from the squad as he continues to recover from an injury.
