Shaheen strikes early
Shaheen Shah Afridi gave Pakistan an early breakthrough in his first over. He sent Tom Latham back on the third ball of the test match via an edge into the slips caught by Azhar Ali.
Shaheen later removed Tom Blundell shorty after the fall of the first wicket and left NewZealand stranded on 13-2.
Williamson and Ross partner up
Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor however built a celestial partnership 150+ and rescued NewZealand from a tough opening spell by Shaheen Shah and Abbas.
The kiwi captain scored a patient 50 and finished 94 not out on day 1 from 243 deliveries.
Ross Taylor played a hand in it too and scored 70 off 151 but was caught behind the stumps, as Taylor lost his wicket to Shaheen Henry Nicholls came out and finished on 42 from 100 deliveries on stumps at day 1.
