Lahore Qalandars Announce New Captain for PSL 2022:
Renowned PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars have changed their captain for PSL 2022. Lahore Qalandars remain the only unlucky franchise of PSL history who have not won the PSL Trophy yet. But they will hope that this jinx ends with the appointment of their new skipper. Shaheen Shah Afridi has been named captain of Lahore Qalandars for Pakistan Super League’s seventh edition. Earlier Sohail Akhtar was leading the Qalandars. Sohail remains the only Lahore Qalandars captain who has got his team through to the playoff stage, back in PSL 2020.
The decision was expected as Lahore Qalandars once again failed to qualify for the playoff stages in PSL 2021. There has been only one instance when Lahore Qalandars have qualified for the playoffs and that was under the captaincy of their recently removed skipper, Sohail Akhtar. Shaheen Shah Afridi is the most valuable local player in the Lahore side. Shaheen has been the best pacer for them.
As far his performance is considered Shaheen seems to be a great choice for this role. However Shaheen has no prior experience as a captain at professional level. Over the years, Shaheen Shah Afridi has picked 50 wickets in PSL History for the Qalandars. No other bowler from Lahore Qalandars has taken more wickets. It is an extremely interesting move from the Lahore Qalandars management. If Shaheen is able to do well, he will become a worthy contender of the leadership role in the national team as well.
Following is the official announcement by Lahore Qalandars regarding the appointment of their new skipper:
