Faf du Plessis retires from Test Cricket!

Faf Du plessis has decided to retire from the format of test cricket as he now wants to shift his focus to T20 cricket and play as much of this shorter format as possible to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup! 

Du Plessis’s test career

Faf had represented South Africa in 69 test matches and has scored a tally of 4163 runs during his career. Faf has scored 10 centuries in red ball cricket and his highest score is 199! 

“The time is right to walk into a new chapter”

Faf released an official statement via his social media platforms where he said: 

“It has been a year of refinement in the fire for us all. Uncertain were the times, but they brought clarity for me in many respects. My heart is clear and the time is right to walk into a new chapter. It has been an honour to play for my country in all the formats of the game, but the time has come for me to retire from Test cricket,” du Plessis said in a statement posted on his Instagram account. “If someone had told me 15 years ago, that I would play 69 Test matches for South Africa and captain the side, I wouldn’t have believed them.”

Shifting focus to T20

Faf has taken this decision in order to shift his focus entirely to just T20 cricket for now keeping in mind the T20 World Cups 2021 and 2022. 

“The next two years are ICC T20 World Cup years. Because of this, my focus is shifting to this format and I want to play as much of it as possible around the world so that I can be the best player I can possibly be”Faf du Plessis.
