England Beats Pakistan by 3 wickets in 1st Test | 1-0 Series

1st Session:

The day started with Yasir and Abbas on the crease as the intent was pretty clear bash the ball whenever you see it and it somewhat worked as Yasir’s 33 off 24 balls gave England a bit difficult target to achieve as Pakistan were all out on 169 with Broad picking up 3.

277 is a hard target to achieve but England had almost 6 sessions to get through the hurdle. England started off with a shaky start as Abbas got rid of Burns in the 11th over but then Sibley-Root stuck at the crease for quite a while till the lunch as England were 55/1 with Sibley on 26 and Root on 18.

2nd Session:

After a partnership of 56 runs, Pakistan was able to get the breakthrough at the cost of Sibley and shortly after Joe Root too as England were 92/3 and just after 10 more runs, the all-important Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope were also dismissed with England on 117/5.

Now all burden rested on Butler and Woakes shoulder as England required 160 more runs and it all turned out perfectly well for them as they stuck on the crease like glue.

They both scored a 50 partnership quickly as Pakistani bowlers were clueless as tea was called with on 167/5 with England needing 110 runs with 5 wickets in hand and 4 sessions to go.

3rd Session:

After tea, England’s intent seemed quite clear as both batsmen completely went backfoot in attempts to tire the bowlers and the plan worked as the only Pakistani who was giving all effort was Yasir Shah while others went south.

Pakistan lost all its review in an attempt to get both set batsmen out and they failed but as the day went into its last moments, Yasir lbwed Butler with a beauty as England started to panic with Broad getting lbwed by Yasir as well.
Only 21 runs were left and Woakes was the only man that could see England through in this close-quarter match. With Yasir taking 4 wickets and in full confidence he was like a magician on the pitch but others seem dull as there were a lot of chances missed.

After the rough and tough moments England only required 4 runs and Shaheen was given the ball and many slips were in place but Azhar would’ve wished he put another one as the first ball nicked past the 3rd slipped as England won the first test of the 3 match series with Chris Woakes as the player of the match.
