BEST BATSMEN IN (PSL) Pakistan Super League SO FAR

Beginning from 2016, PSL has become the most exhilarating sports event for the public of Pakistan which is celebrated every year as a national festival. An atmosphere of thrill and excitement is felt across the whole country from February to March, the time period when PSL T20 tournament is played every year.

PSL edition 5 in 2020 was ongoing in march when the tournament was cut short due to the novel coronavirus pandemic before the knockouts of the Pakistan Super League.

Now the knockout games will be played among the four teams; Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi as per schedule from Nov 14 till Nov 17 at National Stadium Karachi.

The players, local and overseas, prove to be nothing less than amazing in making records in the tournament. Here are the best batsmen in PSL who hold the record of most elite performances in the Pakistan Super League throughout these five years.

Kamran Akmal

Belonging to Peshawar Zalmi, Kamran Akmal is the most successful PSL batter with 1,537 total runs in 56 matches. His highest individual score in an innings was 107 on 61 deliveries against Lahore Qalandars back in 2018.

Kami also holds the record of hitting second most sixes in the league (following Shane Watson) with a total of 77 in five editions. Kamran Akmal is surely a match-winner.

He always stood steady whenever Zalmi needed crucial wins. Not only in batting, but Kami also stands at first and second at most dismissals in a single winning.

Babar Azam

The name has now become the synonym of “excellency”, whether it’s international or league/county cricket. Babar Azam holds numerous world records. Maintaining class in league cricket as well, he stands second in the most run-scorer in the PSL.

Babar was selected for Islamabad United in the inaugural edition of the tournament however he moved to Karachi Kings in the later ones. Coalescing both franchises, Babar has played 45 matches in all in which he had scored 1,388 runs. The run machine is also containing a record of most fifties in the tournament with 12 combined in five editions.

Shane Watson

The icon player of PSL and first foreign player to be picked in PSL draft, Australian golden era all-rounder Shane Watson has proclaimed his highness in PSL as well.

He was picked by Islamabad United for the first two editions. Later he got drafted into Quetta’s squad. Watson has played 46 matches and scored 1,361 runs occupying third place in the list of most run-getters in the PSL tournament history.

He also carries the record of most sixes with 81 combined in five editions. Watson has now retired from all cricket but rather than leaving PSL, he is pondering to join the dugout of Quetta Gladiator as a coach in future editions.

Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik is regarded as a flexible cricketer. He started his PSL journey with the captaincy of Karachi Kings in the first edition, was drafted in Multan Sultans in the third one, and from 2019 he plays for Peshawar Zalmi.

He has a bright history in the National cricket team as well as in Pakistan Super League as he is one of the most senior players to play in this league. Malik’s experience has pulled his team out of the drowning stage several times. Keeping that in record, he also possesses the fourth place among the most run-scorers in the PSL history weighing 1,088 runs in 47 matches.

Ahmed Shehzad

Ahmed plays for Quetta Gladiators and had been a part of the Multan Sultan only in the third version of HBL PSL. He has scored a total of 1088 runs in 45 matches. Shazzi has hit most half-centuries for Quetta Gladiators. He also has the record of Most Half centuries in the finals of PSL, 2 half-centuries in 3 finals. Also, he is one of the players who have the most catches in a season.

Fakhar Zaman

Pakistani international deadly cricketer also plays for Lahore Qalandars and stands in the list of best batsmen to play in the league. He is a part of LQ since 2017 and has been outclassing the opponent with pure class. Fakhar has made 1064 runs in 40 matches with the help of 42 sixes and 111 fours. His highest score in PSL history is 94. Those who follow Pakistan Super League since the beginning admits Fakhar Zaman’s importance in the team especially when his team needed it most.

Luke Ronchi

New Zealand’s right-handed wicket-keeper batsman also occupies this list. He was picked up by Islamabad United in 2018 and was in Gold category of PSL 2020 draft. PSL lovers have witnessed the mightiness of kiwi player in a number of matches. Especially against Lahore Qalandars in his first edition, he pulled his team to the victory in style by racking up the second fastest fifty in the history of PSL in a brief number of 19 deliveries. The “Rock” is not only the third player in PSL to hit most sixes with 50 in his account but his keeping stats are also appealing as he is the fourth best to be in action behind the stumps with 22 dismissals in 31 matches.
