Babar Azam speaks to Media ahead of New Zealand tour

This morning The captain of Pakistan Test team Babar Azam, spoke to media before their departure to New Zealand for their upcoming tour. He showed up well suited for a photo shoot at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. 

“I was struggling in Tests but Mickey Arthur really supported me” : Babar Azam

Babar Azam was asked about handling pressure and how he’s had to carry the team at multiple occasions even when he wasn’t captain. He spoke: “I like playing under pressure as it brings a lot of enjoyment  to me but I give my 100% for the side.”

Leading a young team;

Considering the form of his team mates and selection based on their performances. Babar said that: “Our team is very young; all the players respect each other and are genuinely happy when the other players perform well.”

NewZealand Tour:

Babar spoke about the upcoming series against his personal favourites; NewZealand, whom he scored his first World Cup 100 against in CWC 19. 

He said: 

“New Zealand have a good team but we are also doing well, we performed well against England recently where we lost one series and drew the other one; Batsmen did well there as did the bowlers; So we had Naseem and Shaheen who bowled very well in England and Azhar Ali who also performed wel; So the main thing in New Zealand is for us to have a good combination and to back players to give them confidence”

Leading with confidence

As in result of recent performance by the Pakistan team’s ex captain Azhar Ali, he was replace by Babar due to poor performance. Babar Saïd: “The PCB have given me a lot of confidence and said to me to not worry about short term results, said to me that you are in our long terms plans; They have told me to play freely and there is no pressure from the PCB about results – they have given me the freedom to captain and play as well as I can”
